Il bambino

Welcome to your first Italian lesson !


Bambino = boy  (noun)
Il = The  (definite article)

Let us start with gender.  Not male or female, but grammatical gender: masculine and feminine.

Words in Italian are either masculine or feminine.  Bambino, for example, is a masculine word.

In Italian, the definite article has the same gender as the word it precedes.  The definite article IL is masculine.
